LeBron James made news in NBA circles earlier this week, when he stated his belief that his Cleveland Cavaliers are a “top-heavy team,” and he voiced his frustration with the front office’s inability to acquire more talent.
Thursday night during TNT’s NBA coverage, Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley went at it over Lebron’s comments. And things got a bit heated.
“There’s something fundamentally wrong with him wanting more!” Barkley said to O’Neal.
Shaq responded: “You played for a team that had big four (sic),” he said, referring to Barkley’s stint with the Houston Rockets when he had Hakeem Olajuwon and Scottie Pippen as teammates, among others. “You forgot about that?!”
“We were all old men way past our prime!” Barkley shot back. “(LeBron) just won the championship.”
“You know nothing about going back-to-back,” Shaq said.
Barkley didn’t take the bait, and the discussion was kept to present-day basketball matters. But all in all, it was a pretty fun exchange.
