CNN Allows Ex-Trump Lawyer Ty Cobb to Run Loose With Wild Nazi German Comparisons Over Swearing In Todd Blanche

It may be time to bring back Godwin’s Law. For a time, on social media, bringing up that aphorism was a common practice to dismiss irrational invocations that someone is “a Nazi!” On CNN’s Out Front, former Trump Lawyer Ty Cobb violated Godwin in a way not seen in some time.

The accusation that President Trump and/or Republicans are Nazis is so played out that hearing the charge today is on the level of a parrot squawking in a corner. By now it is either easily ignored, or you mute it and drape a towel over the cage for the sake of silence. But watching this latest strained effort is a marvel.

Erin Burnett brought on Cobb to discuss images of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche being sworn in permanently after his recent confirmation. The visuals from the Oval Office had the man more than just peddling down the Reich path; he was verbally applying swastikas with a paint sprayer.

Burnett has been on something of an anti-Trump crusade of late, with just perpetual negative reports and a dearth of any voices from the Right appearing on her shows. And Ty Cobb, who has been on a media blast for much of the summer, has been her frequent guest.

That Cobb is a former Trump administration name and is now displaying Stage-4 TDS symptoms just means CNN producers are positively vibrating to have him on camera. For the latest, he has gone so far around the corner we need to turn around in order to see his point.

Erin teed up Cobb for his hysteria by noting the figures seen at the swearing-in – Stephen Miller, FBI Director Kash Patel, the current lawyers, and others. She then, in what sounded like a prearranged dialogue, asks Cobb what he sees, after “what they chose of an entire event to release to us.” Cobb was then let off the chain:

Well, I think there was a summer night in 1934 when Hitler consolidated his power surrounded by Himmler, Göring and Goebbels. This is reminiscent of that to me, because you’ve got Blanche and (Emil)Bove, who saw the president through a trial that resulted in 34 felony convictions. Uh, you’ve got Steven Miller and, uh Kash Patel. Um, I think that is the axis of evil that we’re up against.

That Ty Cobb has a calm demeanor and gentle patter as he says this is intended to have his delivery seem reasonable, but looking at the words, you see just how unhinged from reality the man has become. He may need an intervention to see if the fumes from his beard wax are having an effect.

But CNN is perfectly comfortable with all of this. Cobb occupies that space where Michael Avanatti once strode, and where they have been attempting to pull in others, such as Michael Cohen and Marjorie Taylor Greene. These are names who previously would have been excoriated on the air and shown to be completely disqualified, but today they are vaunted voices to be platformed enthusiastically.

That this network does not care that opportunism is employed by each of these players means that CNN is using them opportunistically. The only reason they are considered qualified today is that they now agree with the narrative.

And so, we get these fever-dream scenarios, where Cobb tries to paint the White House in Weimar colors, and the CNN production pumps their fists in agreement. They fail to see that it all amounts to a Godwin disgrace.
