Fox News Contributor Compares Mask Mandate Violation Fines to Racial Profiling: ‘You Should Be Terrified By This’
Fox News contributor Charlie Hurt had a head-scratching response to a video purporting to show police in Vancouver, Washington writing a ticket to maskless individual inside a supermarket. Last month, Washington imposed a statewide mask mandate “for everyone over five years of age in most public indoor settings regardless of vaccination status.”
One may agree with the mandate or not, but until a court says otherwise, it stays until it is rescinded.
Appearing on Fox News’s Primetime on Wednesday, Hurt reacted to the video by completely ignoring the fact the women being fined were violating the state’s masking rules. He said the requirement “is a concerted and clear effort to demoralize law-abiding citizens and criminalize law-abiding citizens.”
Hurt did not say why the state would want to “demoralize” the populace.
He then drew a parallel between what the masking mandate allegedly foretells and racial profiling:
And this is where it gets really, really scary if you ask me. There comes a point, when you are able to criminalize all Americans, then suddenly the state is in the position of being able to arrest anybody they want for any reason they want. And my big point that I would like to make to our friends on the left is this. If you are concerned about racial profiling, if you are concerned about the treatment of people who are charged with crimes, then you should be terrified by this because it is a recipe for disaster and it is the way people’s constitutional rights are stripped from them. You know, irregardless [sic, c’mon, man!] of whether or not they have committed a serious crime or not, or are a danger to society or anything.
