Jim Jordan Reportedly Ready to Throw in the Towel on Speaker Bid — For Now

Congressman Jim Jordan will reportedly stand down on his attempts to become Speaker of the House — for now — and will support the empowerment of Speaker pro tempore Patrick McHenry.
The House of Representatives held two votes on Jordan’s potential speakership this week, but since they both ended in failure, reporters speculated whether Jordan would try again despite concerns that he seems to be losing support among his fellow Republicans. Multiple journalists have now reported that Jordan won’t pursue another vote on Thursday, and will instead allow the House to grant new powers to McHenry, who became the temporary speaker with the ouster of Kevin McCarthy.
However Jordan will remain the speaker designee. The Daily Caller reports through a source that Jordan “will continue to run” while McHenry holds down the fort.
