Clay Higgins Scolds ‘Friend’ Marjorie Taylor Greene for ‘Abhorrent’ Attempt to Oust Speaker

Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) denounced Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) for attempting to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) with a motion to vacate.
On Friday morning, the House passed a $1.2 trillion spending bill by a vote of 286-134. Republicans expressed frustration with Johnson, whom they said did not give them adequate time to review the legislation.
Just months after ousting former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Greene filed her motion to vacate against Johnson with no timeframe for a vote. Democratic and Republican lawmakers have since come out to defend Johnson and vowed to oppose a vote to oust him on the House floor.
Under current House rules, one member may file a motion to vacate and trigger a vote of the entire House on whether to remove the speaker.
Higgins, an ally of Greene, released a video via his X account on Friday claiming the Georgia lawmaker “made a big mistake” and that he stands with Johnson:
I consider Marjorie Taylor Greene to be my friend. She’s still my friend, but she just made a big mistake, you know, trying to vacate Mike Johnson. I totally oppose that. Listen, Mike is a very good man. A man begins every day from the right place, is deeply principled. And it’s like he’s like a brother to me.
And to think that that one of our Republican colleagues would, would, would call for his ouster right now, it’s, it’s really, it’s abhorrent to me and I oppose it. I stand with Mike Johnson is he is maybe the only guy in history that that could potentially perform and help us navigate through these very dark and challenging times when he has to deal with it. With a one-vote majority in the House of Representatives, he’s got a Democrat-controlled Senate and a weaponized, Democrat-controlled White House.
You got one guy that can deal with that. You know, it is my brother, Mike Johnson. I stand with Mike and I expect my colleagues to unanimously oppose this, big mistake that we presented today. But again, a lady that I consider a friend sometimes friend me makes mistakes. And in this case, Marjorie has made a big mistake. I stand with Mike Johnson.
