An Illinois congressman had some choice words for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and the rest of the House Republican conference after Greene demanded Americans “repent.”
Much of the eastern seaboard was hit by a rare 4.8 magnitude earthquake centered in New Jersey on Friday morning. Greene cast the quake – as well as Monday’s pending solar eclipse – as evidence that God is displeased with Americans.
“God is sending America strong signs to tell us to repent,” Greene tweeted. “Earthquakes and eclipses and many more things to come. I pray that our country listens.”
Eclipses are, of course, predictable well into the future and happen as a matter of routine.
The tweet garnered the attention of Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL).
“This is the person who is dictating what the @HouseGOP will put on the floor next week,” he wrote. “Cowards, led by morons.”
Last month, Green filed a motion to vacate the chair, which is supposed to trigger a vote on whether to remove Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) from his position. The Georgia lawmaker is displeased that Johnson supports U.S. aid to Ukraine, a vote on which is expected to be held this month. Democrats have indicated that they may vote to keep Johnson as speaker.
