Ex-Trump Ally And House Republican Slams President As The ‘Most Dishonest Elected Official’ Ever: Just ‘For The Fun Of It’

One-time Trump ally and MAGA firebrand, former Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), savaged President Donald Trump in an interview with NOTUS’s Riley Rogerson, which was published Thursday.

Rogerson wrote about the former Trump critics in the GOP who have now been purged from the party’s ranks and spoke to the likes of ex-Reps Mark Sanford (R-SC) and Charlie Dent (R-PA) – as well as Brooks. Brooks, a founding member of the Freedom Caucus, was famously a major backer of Trump’s roundly debunked claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen. In 2022, Brooks ran for the U.S. Senate in Alabama and initially secured Trump’s coveted endorsement.

Trump eventually rescinded that endorsement and accused Brooks of going “woke” after the Congressman publicly said Trump had no legal ability to be reinstated president as a result of the 2020 election. Trump also blasted Brooks for hiring “a new campaign staff who ‘brilliantly’ convinced him to ‘stop talking about the 2020 Election.’” Brooks lost his senate bid as a result and has since exited politics.

“I had no desire whatsoever to watch or listen to Donald Trump,” Brooks told NOTUS about why he skipped watching Trump’s inauguration on Monday, adding:

Donald Trump has, time and again, convinced me that he is the most dishonest elected official that I have ever — excuse me — that the public has ever had to interact with.

And the paradox with Donald Trump is he seems to make dishonest statements just for the fun of it, as a challenge to see if anybody has the gumption or the wherewithal to take him to task for the dishonest statements he makes.

He sees it as a game and he’s winning it.

Rogerson concluded by asking Brooks if he “thinks [anyone] is seriously willing to criticize Trump on Capitol Hill now?”

“A lot of Democrats. No Republicans,” he replied.
