California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a “FINAL WARNING” to President Donald Trump on Tuesday, threatening to “REDRAW THE MAPS” in California unless Republicans give up on their gerrymandering plans in Texas.

“FINAL WARNING DONALD TRUMP — MAYBE THE MOST IMPORTANT WARNING IN HISTORY! STOP CHEATING OR CALIFORNIA WILL REDRAW THE MAPS,” wrote Newsom’s press office in a statement parodying the style of Trump’s Truth Social posts. “AND GUESS WHO WILL ANNOUNCE IT THIS WEEK? GAVIN NEWSOM (MANY SAY THE MOST LOVED & HANDSOME GOVERNOR) AND A VERY POWERFUL TEAM. DON’T MAKE US DO IT!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.”

Last month, Trump told reporters there were “about four” states alongside Texas he would like to gerrymander in favor of the Republican Party.

Asked whether he was “concerned” that California would “turn around and do the same thing,” Trump responded, “Well, we’ll fight them. You know, they’re so corrupt in California, you never know what’s gonna happen, but we’ve done pretty well in the courts in California, as you see. We’re batting about a thousand, ultimately. We start off a little slow and then we get a lot of hits.”

Newsom reacted to Trump’s remarks at the time, writing, “Donald Trump admits he thinks he’s corrupt on camera.”

Trump’s gerrymandering plans have received criticism from some conservatives, including Fox News contributor Ari Fleischer and The Wall Street Journal, which likened the move to “mutual assured destruction.”
