GOP Candidate For NY Gov Claims ‘They Will Try to Steal the Election’ As Polls Now Show a Close Race

Republican New York gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman claims his Democratic rivals are aiming to “steal” the election.

Blakeman is in a suddenly tight race to unseat incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) as New York’s top official.

“I’m wondering if you feel you have a shot under the current rules in New York state?” host Maria Bartiromo asked.

She then pointed to New Jersey, where Gov. Mikie Sherrill  (D) recently revealed thousands of non-citizens were registered to vote and hundreds of illegal votes had been cast in 2023 and 2024.

“Are you going to be facing that in New York?” Bartiromo added.

“Well we budgeted a significant amount of money for ballot security,” Blakeman said during his Wednesday morning interview on Fox Business.

“Number two, we’ll have thousands of volunteers to make sure that there are no dirty tricks, that they don’t try to steal the election.”

He then caught himself and said, “they will try to steal the election.”

“Just like they wouldn’t let me speak at the Dominican Parade because they didn’t want a Republican to speak, just like they tried to eliminate my ability to get matching funds but a court of five Democrats said that that was cheating and they gave me back the matching funds,” Blakeman continued. “Yes, they will try everything.”

His answer comes after a new poll showed Blakeman has sliced into Hochul’s lead.

The liberal governor has a 47% to 43% advantage on Blakeman, according to a Red Oak Strategic poll first obtained by the New York Post. 

The Post reported:

Anti-incumbent fever is running high, according to the poll… Only 33% of voters say Hochul, who is seeking a second full, four-year term, deserves re-election while 61% say it is time to give someone else a chance, according to the survey, conducted from July 7–12.

Bartiromo raised the concern about election shenanigans after Sherrill announced 6,600 non-citizens were registered to vote due to a “serious software error.” About 400 votes were cast, according to the state’s internal investigation.

Sherrill announced the bogus voters a week after DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin claimed a probe found 250,000 non-citizens were registered to vote in four states, including New Jersey.

Mullin sent a letter to representatives for the states — which also included California, Nevada, and Pennsylvania — demanding they rectify the issue. He said officials who do not boot illegal voters could face fines or even “prison time.”

Blakeman told Fox Business he is “a street fighter” who will do everything he can to make sure the election is square.
