Vice President Kamala Harris didn’t miss the chance to mock former President Donald Trump by quipping, “Hope he’s okay,” in response to a clip of her Republican rival nodding along to music for 40 minutes at his Pennsylvania town hall on Monday.
The event, held in Oaks, Pennsylvania, and hosted by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, turned into an awkward spectacle as medics tended to two audience members who had fainted in the sweltering heat.
Following calls for a medic from the crowd, Trump said: “Would anybody else like to faint? Please raise your hand. You know what we could do though? If my guys can do it, how about we do a little music? Let’s make this a musical fest.”
As the Q&A gave way to a bizarre impromptu jam session. The playlist—ranging from Luciano Pavarotti’s “Ave Maria” to the Village People’s “YMCA”—added to the audience’s confusion as Trump bobbed along to a surreal mix of James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s World” and Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain.”
The show was far from what the town hall had been advertised as an opportunity for Trump to address swing state voters on serious issues. Instead, he left the stage after answering just three questions despite promising to extend the event due to the disruptions.
Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung attempted to frame the strange sequence, portraying the former president as “extending his empathy” by remaining on stage. But that didn’t stop the Harris campaign and the vice president herself from seizing the moment.
