Iran Reportedly Fires Rockets into Israel’s Golan Heights
A barrage of rockets was fired into Israel’s Golan Heights on Wednesday evening, according to the Israeli Defense Force which says that Quds force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is behind the attack.
According to Haaretz, the Israeli Army reported 20 rockets were fired into the region in the north of Israel near the border of Syria. No injuries were reported.
CNN also confirmed that rockets were fired and air sirens were going off in the region.
The move comes just after President Donald Trump announced he planned to withdraw from the Iranian nuclear accord. It also comes on the heels of a Syrian report accusing Israel of attacking a military base used by Iranians near Damascus and escalated rhetoric between both nations.
Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Israel would defend itself if Iran attacked Israel.
“[Iranians] are trying to transfer forces and deadly weapons there with the explicit goal of attacking the state of Israel as part of their strategy to destroy the state of Israel,” Netanyahu told the media on May 9 after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He also stressed that he told Putin that “it is Israel’s right to take such steps as are necessary to defend itself against this aggression.”
