‘It’s Actually Poison. It’ll Kill You’: Brad Raffensperger Says USPS Intercepted Fentanyl-Laced Envelopes Addressed To Election Officials

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Thursday that election workers were put on high alert after a letter laced with the deadly drug fentanyl was discovered in Fulton County, and more were believed to be traveling in the mail.

“We became aware of the situation that there is still an envelope that was traveling, you know, in the mail headed towards Fulton County,” said Raffensperger. “And so, we’ve been reaching out to the counties, in fact, what we did, we put out a notice to all 159 counties.”

Raffensperger advised election workers to have their “antenna out for anything that looked different than normal.” He said that the envelop sent to one election official and intercepted by the post office had tested positive for fentanyl.

“As it relates to having fentanyl, I just want to emphasize the seriousness of this. You know, some people like to call fentanyl a drug. But it’s actually poison. It’ill kill you. And it’ll kill you very quickly, very easily, and it’s very dangerous. We lost our son five-and-a-half years due to fentanyl overdose — We know how deadly this stuff is.”

Raffensperger said the post office believed there were other letters still in transit to states like Washington.

“Right now, they’ve identified a total of five were accepted out in Washington State, and one headed toward the Fulton County election office,” Raffensperger said.

He said Georgia was training election workers with Narcan to counter the effects of the drug on anyone who might be exposed.

Raffensperger added that the candidates running for president in 2024 “need to contend with this stuff.”

“So, when they hear about this, and someone asked them today, you know, ‘What do you think about this?’ If they don’t condemn this, this is domestic terrorism and needs to be condemned by anyone who holds elected office and wants to hold elected office. If they don’t condemn this, then they’re not worthy of the office they’re running for. This is domestic terrorism, and it needs to be condemned by anyone who holds elected office and anyone that wants to hold elected office. ”
