James Carville Tells Stephen A. Smith to Stop ‘Running His F*cking Mouth’ About Politics: ‘Don’t Know His A** From a Hole in the Ground’
James Carville tore into sports broadcaster Stephen A. Smith and told him to stay in his lane and shut his mouth when it comes to politics.
On his Politicon podcast, Carville responded to Smith’s talk of being a rumored 2028 presidential contender for Democrats. Smith said his name being mentioned in talks at all is because the party currently has such a weak bench of options.
“If you’re the Democrats, that’s why Stephen A. Smith is in the news,” Smith said on The Stephen A. Smith Show, “because y’all don’t have anybody. You don’t have anybody. Who you got? Who you got? Kamala Harris better not run. She better not run.”
Carville praised Smith as a sports commentator and said that’s exactly what he should remain, saying he doesn’t know “his ass from a hole in the ground” when it comes to politics. Carville has also offered up plenty of criticism of his own party in the wake of the 2024 presidential election, including the choice of then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
“When it comes to sports, I find him to be really insightful. When it comes to politics, he don’t know his ass from a hole in the ground,” Carville said about Smith. “He’s on there running his goddamn mouth about how he may have to run as a Democrat because there’s nothing left of the Democratic Party and they have no talent. Stephen A., are you shitting me?!”
The longtime Democratic strategist noted Smith himself is friends with major Democratic contenders like Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D).
“So before you start running your fucking mouth off about politics, a topic of which you really don’t know anything about, you ought to sit back and think about it and call some people and run it by them,” Carville said.
He added that Smith should stick to sports, something he’s an “expert” at instead of making a “fool” of himself and getting into politics.
“Stephen A., keep up your shit on sports. I enjoy it. I like it,” Carville said. “But don’t make a fool of yourself anymore and talk about politics.”
