James Clyburn Claims Biden ‘Very Reticent’ to Engage In Campaign Tactics Like The One He Just Used To ‘Clap Back’ At Trump

Asst. House Minority Leader Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) claimed President Joe Biden was reticent to campaign on “clapbacks” against Donald Trump like the one he posted to social media this week.

Clyburn appeared on MSNBC’s new show, The Weekend, on Saturday, where he discussed Biden’s video referring to Trump as a “Herbert Hoover” president who had the “same record” of losing  jobs during his term.

Co-host and former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele asked what Clyburn thought of Biden “doing the clapback on some of the noise” coming from the Trump campaign.

“He and I talked about that last week. He’s been very, very reticent about getting into this kind of a campaign,” Clyburn said.

“I’ve known this guy for a long, long time — he’s not going to be bombastic,” he added about Biden, who recently compared Trump’s rhetoric to Nazi, Germany in a bombastic speech, and whose campaign has posted images of Trump beside Adolf Hitler. “But those kinds of reactions or ‘clapbacks,’ as you call them — we call it something different down in Gullah Geechee country — but that’s the kind of step that he’s going to have to do in order to engage our constituents.

The president wants to continue to move forward. He would love to maintain an atmosphere in which he can find compromise on these issues, and he would rather not engage in this kind of campaign, but it’s going to be required. That’s what his constituents want to see him do; they want him to show the fight that I know is in him.

I’ve known this guy for a long, long time — he’s not going to be bombastic. But those kinds of reactions or ‘clapbacks,’ as you call them — we call it something different down in Gullah Geechee country — but that’s the kind of step that he’s going to have to do in order to engage our constituents. He’s told me, in no uncertain terms, he’s perfectly willing and capable of doing it.

It’s worth nothing that President Biden posts about Trump on a nearly daily basis on X.
