Joe Scarborough Says There’s No Way ‘Coward’ Trump Would Be Willing to Debate Biden Strictly on Policy
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said Donald Trump’s knowledge of policy is so lacking, that the former president would be unwilling to stick to a debate that is solely about the nuts and bolts of issues.
On Wednesday’s Morning Joe, the crew analyzed the results of Super Tuesday, where Trump and President Joe Biden further cemented their statuses as the presumptive nominees of their respective parties. The rematch of the 2020 presidential election that two-thirds of voters say they did not want is on the verge of becoming a reality.
John Heilemann defended Biden’s mental acuity and rattled off a few of Trump’s recent mental gaffes. Scarborough piled on with a suggestion:
It’s a damn shame that Donald Trump won’t submit to this ’cause he’s such a coward when it comes to politics. But it would be great to have Joe Biden right there, Donald Trump right there, around any table and say, “There’s no shouting, there’s no this, there’s no insults. We’re going to ask you about policy.” And actually have them talk policy because Joe Biden – like I said – can take you around the world 100 times.
You ask him what’s happening in Sudan, he’s going to take you through it and what the United States should do, what his administration’s doing. You ask him about what’s happening in the Ukraine, he’s gonna give you about five different angles looking at it. I’m serious. Donald Trump? He’ll tell you, “I would end the war tomorrow.”
Scarborough said this is “maddening” because Trump is ignorant of actual issues.
“He’s never made it his business to understand anything,” he added. “There is no comparison between Donald Trump and Joe Biden when it comes to knowing the facts you need to know to be president of the United States. None.”
Neither Biden nor Trump debated their opponents during the primaries. On Wednesday, however, the former president said he is willing to debate Biden “ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ANYPLACE” and even claimed he would participate in a debate run by the Democratic National Committee.
