‘Just Ask Chip Roy’: House Democratic Leader Cites Texas Republican While Torching GOP’s Legislative Accomplishments

House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) cited a Republican congressman this during his weekly press conference on Thursday to slam the House GOP’s lack of legislative accomplishments.

“And once again, we see that the Republicans could care less about meeting the needs of the American people. House Republicans have now been in the majority for a little under a year. They have nothing to show the American people that they have accomplished on behalf of the American people. Zero,” Jeffries said, adding:

Don’t take my word for it. Just ask Chip Roy, who made it explicitly clear that the House Republican majority has done nothing to meet the needs of the American people.

Jeffries was recalling a speech from mid-November by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) in which the Freedom Caucus favorite torched his fellow Republicans.

“One thing! I want my Republican colleagues to give me one thing, one that I can go campaign on and say we did. One!” Roy fumed during a lengthy speech. He then even urged any other Republican in the chamber to come to the floor and “explain to me one material meaningful, significant thing the Republican majority has done.”

Jeffries continued, “Instead, they continue to focus on undermining the health, the safety and the economic well-being of the American people.”

“What’s the latest example this week?” he asked, concluding:

They’ve been directed to prepare to repeal the Affordable Care Act. In other words, they want to take away, House Republicans, have been directed to prepare to take away health care from more than 100 million Americans who are suffering excuse me, from preexisting conditions. House Republicans are going to spend today and tomorrow continuing their phony investigation of President Biden’s family. And, will try to impeach Secretary Mayorkas at the direction of one of the ringleaders of the extreme MAGA Republican circus in the House, Marjorie Taylor Greene. These are unserious individuals, during very serious times, and it’s hurting the American people.
