Kari Lake Can’t Remember That People in Armenia Speak Armenian in Painfully Awkward Exchange With House Dem

Kari Lake was apparently unaware that people in Armenia spoke Armenian during an awkward exchange Wednesday with a House Democrat.

Lake — a senior adviser to the U.S. Agency of Global Media — was on Capitol Hill on Wednesday to testify on the future of the agency under her leadership. While Lake was questioned by Rep. Jim Costa (D-CA), Costa took a brief detour to ask her something about Armenia:

COSTA: I’d like to specify a particular area that deals with Armenia and the Voice of Armenia. Do you happen to know, Ms. Lake — I come from the land of William Saroyan — and I assume you know what language the people of Armenia speak?

LAKE: I’ve actually heard it. It’s a beautiful language. I can’t name it. Can you please tell me?

COSTA: Yeah, it’s Armenian.

LAKE: (laughs) Trick question.

COSTA: The story of Armenian language, and the Voice of Armenia, was so that the people of Armenia would understand — who were under the oppression of the Soviet Union — what America stood for and what our values stood for.

During that same hearing, things spiraled out of control when Rep. Greg Stanton (R-AZ) brought up Lake’s previous election losses when she ran for public office. In response, Lake brought up rumors that Stanton had a gay lover.
