Tim Walz Takes Heat from Right-Wing Critics After Joking With Kamala Harris About Spice-Less ‘White Guy’ Food
Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz received heat on Thursday after he joked with Vice President Kamala Harris about “white guy” food in Minnesota having no seasoning.
During a conversation between Walz and Harris, which was published to YouTube on Thursday, Walz told Harris, “I have white guy tacos.”
“What does that mean? Like mayonnaise and tuna?” Harris questioned, to which Walz replied, “Pretty much ground beef and cheese.”
After Harris said, “That’s okay. Do you put any flavor in it?” Walz remarked, “Uh, no. Here’s the deal. No, they said to be careful and let her know this, that black pepper is the top of the spice level in Minnesota, you know?”
The remark led to backlash among conservatives and Minnesotans on social media.
A 60 year old man self-effacingly referring to his “white guy” taste is so embarrassing he might as well roll over onto his back and bare his belly. https://t.co/ErjuK47y2b

Falsely playing to every stereotype of “whiteness” in a cloying way to ingratiate himself with the diversity thang

“This isn’t cute. Walz is being used as a clown to mock white people,” protested Fox News columnist David Marcus. “If Walz doesn’t like spicy food that’s fine, but it has nothing to do with being a white guy.”

“I really like Tim Walz, but as someone who also really likes cooking with flavor, I will tell you that black pepper is far from the top spice level in Minnesota,” weighed in journalist and Minnesotan Brian Shea, while conservative radio host Larry O’Connor tweeted, “It’s like a minstrel show lampooning white, Midwest stereotypes.”

Several critics pointed out that Walz had won a recipe contest in 2016 for a taco dish with paprika and chilli powder, and questioned why the Minnesota governor was “lying about how people in Minnesota don’t season their food.”
Geezus. On a hunch I thought. Hmmm I wonder if Tim Walz is lying about how people in Minnesota don’t season their food.

Weird thing to lie about, but lying simply comes naturally to the man who lied about his DUI, lied about being a retired command sergeant major, lied about carrying weapons in war, & happily encouraged & promoted books & articles falsely claiming that he was a combat veteran. https://t.co/S2TaGsynvr pic.twitter.com/KlnQJbSjso

In the conversation posted to YouTube on Thursday, Harris also bragged, “I’m the first vice president, I believe, who has ever grown chilli peppers,” to which Walz replied, “I’m trying to expand my food knowledge.”
“You know what, we’ve got some cantaloupes. You’ll be fine,” Harris shot back.
Contrary to Walz’s claims about Minnesotans avoiding spice, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) was once spotted by a Mediaite editor eating a jalapeñ0.
