Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) could have some help in his upcoming Senate race against Republican nominee J.D. Vance from the anti-Donald Trump Lincoln Project, but a spokesperson for his campaign doesn’t seem to want it.

The Lincoln Project, a political group made up of mostly never-Trump Republicans, listed Ohio as one of the races “critical to democracy’s survival” in the midterms.

“Unlike other PACs, The Lincoln Project is not going after easy races to bolster its winning percentage,” the organization announced this week. “Each race was evaluated and scored on whether it plays an outsized role creating a positive, pro-democracy outcome in 2024, the importance towards controlling the state’s governor’s office and Congressional delegation, and finally, an individual candidate’s support for liberalism.”

Other races included on the list are senate races in Georgia and Arizona.

Izzy Levy, a communications director for Ryan, had a simple response to Lincoln Project getting involved in the Ohio Senate race: “pls no.”

The Lincoln Project is already knee deep in the Ohio race, including announcing an ad targeting Vance, the Republican who went from a “never Trump guy” in 2016 to campaigning with the former president and touting his endorsement this year.

The cold shoulder from Ryan’s spokesperson acted as an open invitation for critics, mostly conservative, to further mock the PAC on Twitter.

“This is a pretty good insight into how many Dems see the Lincoln Project’s work,” CNN national political reporter Dan Merica tweeted when drawing attention to Levy’s dismissal.
