Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) faced backlash on social media over the weekend after an interview from last year made the rounds — an interview in which she said Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) believed he had been “whitewashed” after marrying a White woman.
The backlash to the clip comes as Crockett faces immense criticism for referring to Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, as “governor hot wheels.”
Last June, Crockett joined The Breakfast Club to dish on the leadup to the 2024 election when she blasted Donalds – a Black Republican who is a staunch ally to President Donald Trump.
While referring to Black conservatives, Crockett addressed them as “skinfolk who definitely are not our kinfolk,” and called out Donalds’s interracial marriage.
“The fact that you’re sitting around talking about ‘life was better under Jim Crow,’ like, is this because you don’t understand history?” Crockett said on the program. “Or literally it’s because you married a white woman and so you think that whitewashed you?”
She added of the Florida Republican, “I feel like they give him his talking points and he’s like, ‘Yes, massa, I got it.’”
Conservatives and prominent MAGA boosters blasted the congresswoman over the unearthed comments:
The nine-month-old clip was posted throughout the weekend on X after Crockett insulted Abbott last week at an event in Los Angeles and refused to apologize.
“Y’all pray for me because who knows what I’m going to end up saying,” Crockett told an audience. “We in these hot ass Texas streets, honey. Y’all know we have Governor Hot Wheels down there.”
In the wake of the 2024 election, Crockett has emerged as one of her party’s more vocal figures – to the chagrin of many Democrats and the delight of many on the right.
