New Trump Ad Slated to Air During Debate Flat Out Questions Whether Biden ‘Makes it Four More Years’
A new ad put together by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign and set to air during Thursday night’s pivotal presidential debate on CNN speculates that President Joe Biden may not survive another term in the Oval Office.
“When you think about the Joe Biden you saw at the debate, ask yourself a question,” begins the ad’s narrator before “going there”:
Do you think the guy who was defeated by the stairs, got taken down by his bike, lost a fight with his jacket, and regularly gets lost makes it four more years in the White House?
On screen, the words “Will he make it four years?” are followed by a video of Vice President Kamala Harris laughing hysterically and a second question from the narrator.
“And you know who’s waiting behind him, right? Vote Joe Biden today, get Kamala Harris tomorrow,” he concludes.
Biden’s age has become a central issue in the campaign. According to a Gallup poll conducted this month, 67% of Americans believe the 81-year-old president is too old to carry on in his current capacity, and that feeling appears to be bleeding into other negative perceptions of him. Just 38% of Americans and 35% of independents, for example, believe Biden “has the personality and leadership qualities a president should have.” Forty-six percent and 43% of those same cohorts, meanwhile, believe Trump possesses those qualities.
Harris is deeply unpopular; her approval rating is ten points underwater as of Thursday morning, per FiveThirtyEight’s polling average.
The Trump team’s messaging ahead of the debate has been somewhat contradictory. While its new ad, headlined “Who Is Laughing Now” indicates that they expect a sleepy performance from Biden, Trump himself has suggested that Biden will “come out all jacked up.”
“DRUG TEST FOR CROOKED JOE BIDEN??? I WOULD, ALSO, IMMEDIATELY AGREE TO ONE!!!” declared Trump on Truth Social Monday.
