White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller accused California Gov. Gavin Newsom of inciting “violence and terrorism” on Wednesday with his remarks about living under “an authoritarian government” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

In an interview with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday evening, Newsom criticized the Trump administration’s ICE raids on illegal immigrants.

“Masked men jumping out of unmarked cars; people disappearing; no due process; no oversight; zero accountability happening in the United States of America today,” he said. “People ask, ‘Well is authoritarianism you being hyperbolic?’ Bullsh*t we’re being hyperbolic. If you’re black and brown community, it’s here in this country.”

Newsom argued, “These are not just authoritarian tendencies, these are authoritarian actions by an authoritarian government,” before saying he would “push back” if masked ICE agents in an unmarked car tried to apprehend him.

Reacting to Newsom’s remarks on social media, Miller accused the California governor of inciting terrorism.

“This language incites violence and terrorism,” he wrote — receiving more than 10,000 likes.

Newsom’s remarks were made just hours before a gunman opened fire on an ICE facility in Dallas, Texas, killing one person and injuring several others.

According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the shooter had etched “ANTI ICE” onto his shell casings.

“Last night, Gavin Newsom called for people to ‘push back’ against ICE agents,” wrote Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) in response to the shooting. “Today, an anti-ICE radical shot up a Dallas ICE facility. This is a direct result of the Left’s anti-ICE rhetoric.”

Newsom’s remarks also came just weeks after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated during an event at Utah Valley University.

The suspect in that case had also allegedly etched anti-fascist slogans onto his shell casings, including the phrase, “Hey fascist! Catch!” and lyrics to the Italian anti-fascist song “Bella Ciao.”
