Trump Calls on ‘Four’ States To Gerrymander Democratic Seats Out of Existence
President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday that there are “about four” states he would like to gerrymander in favor of the Republican Party, before warning he would fight California in the courts if they tried to do the same thing for Democrats.
Asked by a reporter, “Which states besides Texas would you like Republicans to redraw the congressional line?” Trump replied, “Well, there’s about four of them. I’ll let you figure that one out, but we have about four of them. In three cases, it’s one, and in one case, it’s two or three. And Texas would be five.”
“Are you concerned California will turn around and do the same thing?” the reporter questioned.
Trump warned, “Well, we’ll fight them. You know, they’re so corrupt in California, you never know what’s gonna happen, but we’ve done pretty well in the courts in California, as you see. We’re batting about a thousand, ultimately. We start off a little slow and then we get a lot of hits.”
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) quickly responded to Trump’s remarks, writing, “Donald Trump admits he thinks he’s corrupt on camera.”
The president pushed Texas Republicans this week to redraw the state’s congressional maps ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
“Just spoke to our Great Congressmen and women of Texas,” wrote Trump on Truth Social, Tuesday. “I keep hearing about Texas ‘going Blue,’ but it is just another Democrat LIE. With the right Candidate, Texas isn’t ‘going Blue’ anytime soon!”
