Former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign mocked Republican primary rival Ron DeSantis on Wednesday after he sent out an email using the term “on the heels.”

The email, which read, “Ron DeSantis will enter the third GOP debate on the heels of a historic endorsement from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and will present his vision for America’s revival,” was quickly picked up by the Trump campaign, who have claimed for several months now that DeSantis wears high-heeled boots to increase his height.

“Here I fixed it: ‘Ron DeSantis will enter the third GOP debate on the HIGH heels of a historic endorsement from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds…'” mocked Trump senior adviser Jason Miller, while the Trump campaign’s “Trump War Room” reacted with a photo of DeSantis’ boots.

Last month, Trump himself posted several screenshots of DeSantis’ boots in an effort to prove that his rival was “wearing hidden heels.”

DeSantis, meanwhile, has dismissed the theories.

“This is no time for foot fetishes,” DeSantis told Newsmax host Eric Bolling this month. “I know Donald Trump and a lot of his people have been focusing on things like footwear. I’ll tell you this. You know, if Donald Trump can summon the balls to show up to the debate. I’ll wear a boot on my head.”

After podcaster Patrick Bet-David also asked DeSantis whether his boots contained hidden heels, DeSantis said, “No, no, those are just standard off-the-rack, Lucchese.”
