Trump ‘Diehards’ at RNC Get ‘Restless’ as Subdued and Rambling Trump Speech Runs Over 90 Minutes

Diehard supporters of former President Donald Trump reportedly became “restless” on Thursday evening as his speech at the Republican National Convention dragged on for more than an hour and a half.
Trump beat his own record for the longest acceptance speech, speaking on a variety of topics and attacking President Joe Biden and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
While the address began with excitement from the audience, supporters reportedly became restless as Trump continued to talk, and talk, and talk.
“I’m standing 10 feet from the stage, in a sea of diehards, and some are getting restless,” reported The Atlantic‘s Tim Alberta, who wrote that supporters of the former president could be seen “checking phones, stealing glances at the teleprompter,” and “whispering about when it will be over.”

Others in the audience could be seen closing their eyes and falling asleep.

According to Financial Times associate editor Edward Luce, some attendees even started to leave as Trump’s speech continued to drone on.
People starting to leave. Loud chattering on fringes of the arena. Trump is boring the audience.

Political commentator Bari Weiss tweeted, “Consensus before this 12-hour speech was Trump landslide. Now it’s like find a Dem with a pulse who can read a teleprompter and like: toss up!”

“Frankly, it was a long speech. It was a rambling speech,” reacted CNN’s Chris Wallace. “It was a speech by an older man and I couldn’t help but think that the people that are going to be happiest tonight are not the people at Trump headquarters, but the people, the Democrats, maybe at Biden headquarters, maybe at the headquarters of other people who think they’re going to replace Joe Biden.”
Even former Trump senior adviser David Urban advised the 45th president to shorten his speeches in the future.
“Shorten the damn rallies!” he said following Trump’s speech. “You go to a rally, they’re too long. The people at the end of the rally, they’re leaving for the exits because it’s like a football game with the score’s run up. They wanna get back to their car before the crowd leaves. Donald Trump needs to cut down about 30, 40 minutes. Go back to the old days. That’s the big critique of this speech. Too long.”
