Trump Goads Troops at Fort Bragg Into Booing the Media: ‘Look What I Have to Put Up With!’
President Donald Trump on Tuesday goaded troops at Fort Bragg to boo the media personnel in attendance as he railed against the “fake news.”
Trump joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for a rally at the military installation. His administration recently restored the name “Fort Bragg” after the previous administration changed it to “Fort Liberty.” That change came after it was determined that institutions could no longer be named after those who sided with the Confederacy during the Civil War; and Bragg was initially named after Confederate General Braxton Bragg. When the name was restored, it was decided that it would instead honor Private First Class Roland Bragg, who fought in World War II.
While talking about the importance of restoring the name, Trump singled out the press. Although Trump didn’t explicitly call for it, the troops surrounding him began to boo them.
“And for a little news for a the fake news back there — the fake news,” Trump said. “Ladies and gentlemen, look at them! Look at them all. Aye, aye, aye, what I have to put up with. Fake news!”
As Trump paused, the crowd began to boo the “fake news” that he just pointed out. The booing got a laugh out of him.
“What I have to put up with!” Trump repeated. “But they’re alright. They’ve been very nice today. They were impressed with that display, I can tell you that.”
