Trump Roasted For ‘Tone Deaf’ Attack on Minnesota Governor When Asked About Assassinations

President Donald Trump sparked outrage on social media for his criticism of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz in the response to the shootings of state lawmakers.

Over the weekend, a man posing as a police officer shot two Democratic Minnesota politicians — and their spouses — in at their homes. Although State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife survived, State House Speaker Emerita Melissa Horton and her husband did not. Police identified the suspect as Vance Boelter; and he was found and arrested two days later.

In the immediate aftermath of the attack, Trump was asked if he had spoken to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. He used that opportunity to trash him.

“Well, it’s a terrible thing,” Trump. “I think he’s a terrible governor. I think he’s a grossly incompetent person. But I may — I may call him. I may call other people, too.”

Those comments sent shockwaves throughout the political world. NewsNation contributor Chris Cillizza called them “so fucking tone deaf.”

“The utter lack of empathy,” Cillizza said in a tweet. The total disregard for even trying to bring the country together.

“I am no Trump hater. But quotes like this are so fucking tone deaf.”

That sentiment was shared by countless critics of the president.
