Former President Donald Trump was being evaluated at a Pennsylvania medical facility on Saturday evening after he was targeted by what appeared to be a shooter during a campaign rally in the community of Butler, his campaign said in a statement.

The Secret Service said the former president and presumptive Republican nominee for president was “safe” after what sounded to many like gunfire rang out as Trump spoke to voters in the battleground state.

Trump was visibly bleeding from the ear as Secret Service Agents surrounded him.

In a statement attributed to Trump’s campaign spokesman Steven Cheung, the verified Team Trump X account tweeted, “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow.”

The former president was delivering remarks on-stage just after 6 p.m. ET when what sounded like it could have been a hail of gunfire began.

Trump first looked to his right before he eventually grabbed his ear.

He was photographed bleeding from his head but stuck up a fist in an apparent display of defiance as his security detail tried to protect him.
