Kremlin Spox Lauds Trump White House for ‘Rapidly Changing’ US Foreign Policy in a Way That ‘Largely Coincides With Our Vision’

The Kremlin expressed approval of President Donald Trump’s recent shift in tone regarding Ukraine, with a spokesman stating that the White House now holds a position that “largely coincides” with that of Russia.

In recent weeks, Trump and his top officials have softened their language about Moscow and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Before Friday’s White House clash, the president openly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He has accused Zelensky of obstructing efforts to resolve his country’s three-year and called him a “dictator.”

According to Politico, Russian officials are pleased with what they view as a foreign policy shift in Washington – one they are more aligned with:

Trump has upended U.S. policy on Ukraine in recent weeks and sought a more conciliatory approach to Russian President Vladimir Putin, echoing Moscow’s talking points and recently accusing Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy of obstructing efforts to resolve the conflict started by Putin’s unprovoked invasion. In contrast, former U.S. President Joe Biden led efforts to support Kyiv against the Russian forces attacking Ukraine.

“The new [U.S.] administration is rapidly changing all foreign policy configurations. This largely coincides with our vision,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday in a video published on Telegram.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also praised Trump for his “common sense” and said he perceived Trump’s brand of politics as “lively” and “human.”

The Kremlin’s praise of Trump comes two days after the president expelled Zelensky from the White House following a public dispute about bringing an end to the war. Trump said that in his estimation, Ukraine had to accept an unfavorable deal if it meant the fighting would end.

In comments after Zelensky left the White House, Trump said he would be welcome back when he wanted “peace.”

Russia launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine three years ago last week. Trump’s critics in the US and abroad have said that allowing Russia to walk away from the war without punitive actions would embolden Putin for further aggression.
