‘Oof…Just Bad Stuff All Around’: CNN’s Data Guru Shocked by Trump’s Brutally Low New Approval Rating

The latest poll by Quinnipiac University had some grim numbers across the board for President Donald Trump, shocking CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten, who described it as “definitely one of Trump’s worst polls.”

The poll was conducted by live interviews via landline and cellphone from June 5 through 9, with responses reported for 1,265 self-identified registered voters across the U.S.

The margin of error was +/- 2.8 percentage points.

Only 38 percent of voters said they approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, with 54 percent disapproving and 8 percent saying they didn’t know or not answering. This was a decrease from Quinnipiac’s April 9 poll, in which 41 percent approved, 53 disapproved, and 6 percent didn’t know or didn’t answer.

The president was underwater on every single issue in the Quinnipiac survey:

• immigration issues: 43 percent approve, 54 percent disapprove, with 3 percent not offering an
opinion;
• deportations: 40 percent approve, 56 percent disapprove, with 4 percent not offering an opinion;
• the economy: 40 percent approve, 56 percent disapprove, with 4 percent not offering an opinion;
• trade: 38 percent approve, 57 percent disapprove, with 6 percent not offering an opinion;
• universities: 37 percent approve, 54 percent disapprove, with 9 percent not offering an opinion;
• the Israel – Hamas conflict: 35 percent approve, 52 percent disapprove, with 13 percent not
offering an opinion;
• the Russia – Ukraine war: 34 percent approve, 57 percent disapprove, with 10 percent not offering
an opinion.

Voters weren’t any warmer about the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that Trump has loudly urged Congress to pass (and which sparked a bitter feud with Elon Musk). According to the poll, 53 percent oppose the legislation, 27 percent support it, and 20 percent did not offer an opinion.

The bill did get support from 67 percent of Republicans, with 10 percent opposing it, and 22 percent not offering an opinion, but got very unfavorable numbers from Democrats (89 percent oppose, 2 percent support, 10 percent no opinion) and Independents (57 percent oppose, 20 percent support, and 23 percent no opinion).

On Tuesday, Enten marveled at a poll with a sunnier picture for Trump, showing how immigrant voters had shifted dramatically in favor of Trump and the GOP from the 2016 and 2020 elections to last November.

Wednesday afternoon, CNN’s data guru had a much harsher report for the president, tweeting a link to the Quinnipiac poll and deeming it “definitely one of Trump’s worst polls.”

“Just horrible across the board,” Enten wrote, highlighting the president’s net approval being 16 points underwater — “Oof.” — and the strong opposition to the Big Beautiful Bill.

“Just bad stuff all around,” he concluded.
