Trump Calls for Primary Challenger to ‘Beatable’ Conservative Chip Roy — But Already Missed Filing Deadline

Former President Donald Trump is seeking out a Republican to challenge Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) for his seat in the House of Representatives.
“Has any smart and energetic Republican in the Great State of Texas decided to run in the Primary against RINO Congressman Chip Roy. For the right person, he is very beatable. If interested, let me know!!!” mused Trump on Truth Social late Monday night.
Roy is one of the most conservative members of the Republican caucus in the House and often finds himself at odds with his party, calling it out from his own right flank. He endorsed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for president before DeSantis had even made his campaign official back in March, characterizing him as “a vibrant and energetic leader with the faith, vision, and courage to chart a new course.”
“It’s time for younger, but proven, leadership to offer America eight solid years of transformational change,” continued Roy in a conspicuous shot at Trump.
Roy also incensed Trump by voting not to reject the results of the 2020 presidential election in the House of Representatives on January 6, 2021.
“Can’t imagine Republican House Members would go with Chip Roy—he has not done a great job, and will probably be successfully primaried in his own district,” declared Trump after Roy announced he would seek to become the next GOP conference chair in May 2021. “I support Elise [Stefanik,] by far, over Chip!”
Roy lost the race for conference chair to the much more moderate, but also much more pro-Trump Stefanik.

Unfortunately for Trump, he won’t have any such luck in ejecting Roy from his seat come 2024, as the filing deadline for primary candidates passed on Monday, December 11.
