WATCH: Girl Faints Right Behind Louisiana Governor As He Signs Ten Commandments Law

A young girl fainted behind Louisiana Republican Gov. Jeff Landry as he signed the controversial Ten Commandments law on Wednesday.

Recently, the Republican-controlled legislature in Louisiana passed a new law requiring the state’s public schools to display a poster of the Ten Commandments in all classrooms from kindergarten up to the university level. The bill has generated controversy amongst some critics who claim it is discriminatory against other religions and cultures.

During the signing of the bill, a young girl standing behind Landry appears to zone out before collapsing to the floor. Adults at the ceremony can be seen rushing behind Landry to assist the child, but the governor did not appear to be aware of the young girl’s medical emergency.

“If you want to respect the rule of law, you gotta start from the original law given which was Moses…He got his commandments from God,” states Landry after signing the bill after the young girl faints to the ground.

Watch the interaction below:

The bill specifically claims that the Bible’s Ten Commandments are “foundational documents of our state and national government” and requires every classrooms to display it in “large, easily readable font.”

Additionally, the bill requests a  “context statement” to be added under the display that states the Ten Commandments “were a prominent part of American public education for almost three centuries.”

The law is set to take effect by 2025; however, several legal civil liberties group have vowed to challenge the legality of forcing public classrooms to display religious symbols. Landry responded to the criticism by stating, “I can’t wait to be sued.”
