WATCH LIVE: President Biden Holds Press Conference at NATO Summit
President Joe Biden is holding a press conference from the NATO summit in Washington, his first since his debate performance last month against Donald Trump.
The president is set to speak at around 7 p.m. ET in what the White House has dubbed his “big boy” press conference amid calls from some within his own party to step down over concerns about his stamina and chances of defeating Trump.
Biden will speak from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in D.C. in his first solo press conference since November of last year. Since the debate, he’s conducted multiple interviews, leading to further scrutiny on the campaign. Biden has insisted he is staying in the race, blaming party “elites” for calls to replace him as the Democratic Party’s nominee.
The president also wrote a letter to Democratic colleagues in Congress, insisting he’s staying in the race. Multiple Democratic lawmakers have already called for him to step down since, and Axios reported a “flood” of other members of Congress are waiting to release statements until after the NATO summit and Biden’s press conference.
Biden’s press conference was originally scheduled for 90 minutes earlier, but was delayed due to the president’s full schedule, according to NATO.
