WATCH: Trump and Kamala Harris Reveal Details of Their Phone Call After Second Assassination Attempt

Amid partisan finger-pointing and recriminations of irresponsible rhetoric leading to political violence, the two Presidential candidates shared a very nice phone call about what the FBI has classified as an apparent assassination attempt.

Vice President Kamala Harris revealed during an NABJ event Tuesday that she had called former President Donald Trump to “check in” on how he was doing after a gunman was apprehended Sunday outside the Trump International Golf Course where he was playing an unpublicized round.

Politico Playbook editor Eugene Daniels, who seems to always be near the Vice President when some interesting news breaks, asked about the phone call in a way that revealed he already knew.

“I checked in to see if he was okay,” Harris replied. “And I told him what I have said publicly. There is no place for political violence in our country. I am in this election, in this race for many reasons, including to fight for our democracy. And in a democracy, there is no place for political violence.”

It is a fairly boilerplate revelation, however, given the “Threat to Democracy” vs. Marxist or Communist “Comrade Kamala” framing, that the campaigns have framed the election as a convivial “check in” on one candidate’s well-being following a scary episode. Well, that’s worth highlighting.

This phone call came up during Tuesday night’s Town Hall during Trump’s conversation with Arkansas Governor, and former Trump Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Trump also brought up a call received by President Joe Biden before revealing that Vice President Harris “could not have been nicer”:

I want to be nice. And he was so nice to me yesterday. But, you know, in one way, I sort of wish I the call wasn’t made because I do feel and he’s so, so nice. I’m so sorry about what happened and all that, but I have to lay it out. We have very important and the same with Kamala today. She could not have been nicer. But the fact is, the fact is, we have to have people that are respected by the opponent, by the other side, by other countries.”

The grumbling of the Trump supporters in attendance to the kind sentiment shared by their candidate suggests that they weren’t there to here kind words shared about their partisan foes, which perhaps explains why Trump so quickly pivoted back to a criticism, albeit a relatively tame one in comparison to his usual rhetoric.
