The New York Times incorrectly classified a Northern Israeli town as “Palestinian.”
Although the dateline in the Tuesday piece – headlined The Best Olive Oil in the World? This Village Thinks So” – correctly reads “Rameh, Israel,” the first paragraph incorrectly identifies Rameh as a “Palestinian mountain village.”
The subhead of the article reads, “Rameh, a Palestinian town surrounded by olive groves, has long had a reputation for producing especially good oil.”
Tamar Sternthal, director of the Israel office of the pro-Israel watchdog Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA), tweeted, “Before deciding whether Rameh has best olive oil in the world, 1st @nytimes should work out *where* in the world it is. It’s in northern Israel; it’s not a “Palestinian town.” @CAMERAorg urges correction.”
