‘Mad Dog’ Stuns First Take Colleagues When He Lists Curling As One of the Hardest Sports on the Planet: ‘An Impossible Sport to Play’

The First Take crew was left in disbelief Wednesday when Chris “Mad Dog” Russo listed curling among the hardest sports to play in the world.

Russo was tasked with putting together a list of the five hardest sports in the world. The segment was done in response to American tennis star Frances Tiafoe claiming his sport is the hardest.

Russo started the list with football at no. 5. Then, he left Stephen A. Smith beside himself with the next one.

“This is an impossible sport to play,” Russo said, “because it requires finesse and the ability to skate and all those things. Don’t laugh — curling.”

Smith immediately dropped to the floor when the word “curling” appeared on the board in front of him. Molly Qerim revealed she had no idea what curling even is.

“That’s what you play in the Olympics,” Russo explained to Qerim. “It’s like shuffleboard on ice.”

As the two of them were talking, Smith was still on the ground repeatedly saying, “Oh my God.”

Even when Russo finished his list — which also included tennis, golf, and baseball — Smith couldn’t get over curling.

“Let me say this to you,” Smith said. “You lost me with curling. You just lost me. I mean, the list is straight trash because of curling.

“Could you put up rugby? Could you put up MMA? Boxing? You’re gonna put curling? That is embarrassing. That is a disgrace. That’s horrible.”

To Russo’s credit, he was speaking from experience. He opened the segment by noting every sport he was about to list was something he’d played in the past.
