A pro-Palestinian protester tried disrupting Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance at Super Bowl LIX, unfurling a flag and quickly being detained by security.

During Lamar’s Super Bowl performance, video was captured of a man making it to the field, unfurling a Palestinian flag and even making it to the stage not far from where Lamar was playing. The attempted disruption did not appear on the FOX broadcast as the protester only made it to the edge of where Lamar was performing before running out to the field where he was quickly detained by security.

A big question surrounding Lamar’s performance was whether he was going to jump into a performance of Not Like Us, a diss song aimed at fellow musician Drake who recently filed a defamation suit tied to Lamar’s song. Lamar’s song includes controversial insinuations, including that Drake is attracted to underage girls.

Lamar teased playing the song several times, with actor Samuel L. Jackson appearing to warn him against it. Lamar eventually played the song and then rapped “turn his TV off” multiple times in a nod to the Drake diss.

“That’s what I’m talking about. That’s what America wants. Nice, calm. You’re almost there. Don’t mess this —” Jackson said before Lamar jumped into his Drake diss tune.

The halftime protester’s action come not long after President Donald Trump, who was the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl, talked multiple times about the United States taking control of Gaza as the Israel-Hamas war rages on.
