Air Traffic Controllers Gasp In Horror As Plane Collides With Helicopter In Shocking Audio
Air traffic controllers can be heard gasping in horror in chilling audio from Reagan National Airport that captures the moments before and after a commercial jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter collided over the Potomac River on Wednesday night.
In the exchange, obtained by Fox News, air traffic control can be heard asking the Black Hawk crew if they had eyes on the incoming commercial flight.
“PAT 2-5 do you have the CRJ in sight?” an air traffic controller asked. Moments later, another urgent directive followed: “Pat 2-5 pass behind the CRJ.”
As the two aircraft crash, a haunting gasp could be heard from the tower. The tower immediately notified another pilot of the catastrophic event.
Flights at Reagan National were brought to an immediate standstill as emergency crews scrambled to the scene where the helicopter and plane fell into the freezing river. Search and rescue teams were deployed immediately, and officials confirmed at least 18 bodies have been recovered so far.
The PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet, a carrier for American Airlines, was en route from Wichita, Kansas, with 60 passengers and four crew members aboard. The Army helicopter was reported to be carrying four soldiers.
