‘Are the Numbers I’m Seeing Correct?!’ CNBC Gobsmacked While Reporting in Real Time On the ‘Miracle Moves’ in Stock Market Post-Tariff Pause
CNBC anchor Kelly Evans marveled in real time at the “miracle moves” happening in the stock market just moments after President Donald Trump announced a pause on a number of tariffs.
In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, the president announced a 90 day pause on tariffs imposed just days before against 75 countries. He also announced China tariffs would be raised to $125% for a “lack of respect.” China imposed retaliatory tariffs against the United States following Trump’s announcement. They’re also reportedly considering complete bans, including on American movies.
“Based on the lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets, I am hereby raising the Tariff charged to China by the United States of America to 125%, effective immediately,” the president wrote about China. “At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable.”
Trump’s announcement was welcome news for shaky markets as numbers began shooting back up so high, Evans noted on CNBC’s The Exchange their tickers could barely keep up.
“Are the numbers I’m seeing on my screen correct here for the Dow? Are we up? 700, 840 points right now? Dana, I’m watching this literally glitching and we’re up 900 points. Is this, this is, yeah, OK. Wow, our charts can’t even keep up with how quickly these numerical moves are happening. We are at session high,” Evans said in reaction to numbers real time after wrapping up a segment on the tariffs.
