On Morning Joe Tuesday morning, MSNBC host Chris Matthews praised Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) for a “brilliant” strategy to shut down the government at the moment of ObamaCare’s implementation.
“I think Ted Cruz is brilliant,” Matthews told co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski during a discussion about the more amicable relationship between President Ronald Reagan and Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill.
“The president has met his match in this guy. He set this thing up months ago with no budget agreement, therefore no appropriations, therefore the government would be completely exposed this morning, at midnight last night, to completely shut down. He knows what he’s doing.”
Why did this work so well?
“It’s about the baby, Obama’s baby,” Matthews said, referring to President Barack Obama’s signature legislation. “You can’t cut the baby in half.”
