Chris Matthews: ‘When Hillary Quits the Election, I’ll Shut Down Hardball‘
On last night’s Hardball, Chris Matthews led his panel through a discussion that revolved around Donald Trump‘s charisma, and the possibility of Hillary Clinton dropping out of the race. Suffice it to say, Matthews was confident that Clinton’s campaign would survive the controversies over her email server, and said, jokingly(?), that he would end the show if Clinton quits the race.
The remark came after Matthews and Republican strategist Kellyanne Conway discussed whether Clinton is running out the clock for potential successors like Elizabeth Warren to enter the race and take over if she were to bow out.
When presented with the idea that Warren could ever take Clinton’s place if she becomes “truly damaged,” Matthews made the bold remark: “When Hillary Clinton quits this election, we’ll shut down the show.”
Watch below, via MSNBC:
UPDATE 4:55 PM E.S.T Former Speaker Newt Gingrich responded to Matthews’ statement on Twitter, saying that him leaving Hardball would only sweeten the deal of Clinton’s drop-out:
To chris matthews:do you really promise to quit your show if hillary drops out? This would give a lot of us an extra incentive. Please!
