Don Lemon Returns to CNN After His Sister’s Death: Your Prayers Have ‘Meant the World to Me’

CNN’s Don Lemon returned to air tonight days after the tragic death of his sister L’Tanya “Leisa” Lemon Grimes and took a few minutes to thank everyone for the kind words people sent him and his family.

“I am back sitting with you tonight,” he explained, “because this is exactly where she would have wanted me to be.” Lemon shared with viewers that what Leisa really wanted this past Christmas was a new CNN Tonight t-shirt.

He continued, “I want all of you to know that your prayers and your words of encouragement have really meant the world to me and my family over the last few days.”

Lemon revealed that competitors like Sean Hannity and Joy Reid and Megyn Kelly and many others all reached out to him with their thoughts and prayers, and he thanked everyone who did, especially his colleagues and co-workers at CNN.

Lemon closed by thanking his family directly before moving on to covering the news of the day.
