FEMA Administrator on Hurricane Response: We’re ‘Going to Be There for Years’
FEMA Administrator Brock Long appeared on CNN this morning to discuss Hurricane Harvey response efforts with Jake Tapper.
The flooding in Houston has been getting worse today, and Tapper asked Long if FEMA is “prepared to be there for months on end.”
Long said, “FEMA’s going to be there for years.”
He said that FEMA is “vastly different” today than it was in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, but he also said, “This is a storm that the United States has not seen yet.”
Long reiterated the importance of everyone listening to the guidance of local officials.
Tapper at one point also brought up vacancies in some key positions right now, like a permanent Director of Homeland Security. Long said he doesn’t have the time to worry about that now, and praised the people in place right now he’s working with on relief efforts.
