Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA) was floored by the statements from President Donald Trump‘s lawyer John Dowd — calling for the end of special counsel Robert Mueller‘s probe.
Monday on CNN, the Pennsylvania Congressman ripped Dowd for speaking, in his view, irresponsibly, give that he’s representing Trump.
“I really was frankly stunned by Mr. Dowd’s comments over the weekend that he would say that the special prosecutor should back off now, or end his investigation,” Dent said. “And he said he put that out as a private citizen. Well, he’s not just some private citizen. He’s the president’s lawyer, for heaven’s sake.”
Dent was then asked by anchor John Berman to weigh in on a comment from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) in which he mused about the ramifications of Trump firing Mueller.
“[I]f he tried to do that it would be the beginning of the end of his presidency,” Graham said.
Dent mostly agreed.
“I just think it would be catastrophic on many levels, politically,” Dent said. “It would just bring Washington to a stand still.”
He added, “Lindsey Graham may be right. Maybe it does end the presidency.”
