Harry Reid on Russian Hacking: James Comey is the ‘New J. Edgar Hoover,’ and He Should Resign
Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is taking more parting shots at James Comey, this time over the reports that his intelligence agency concluded that Russia did intervene in the election.
Recently, Reid ripped on the FBI director a lot over his ambiguous letters about Hillary Clinton‘s email investigation. It was during this time Reid accused Comey of sitting on proof that Russian hackers were trying to influence the election in Donald Trump‘s favor.
Now that new reports suggest that top CIA officials believe in Russia’s interference, Reid called into AM Joy today, where he let Comey have it and called him the “new J. Edgar Hoover.”
“The FBI had this material for a long time,” Reid said. “Everyone knows Wikileaks was involved from the very beginning. They ran the information as if it was released by one of the great political operatives in America, when in fact it was run out of the clique offices in Russia. Russia has a pretty good way of cheating.”
Joy Reid followed up by asking the senator if he was serious in his accusations, and whether he thinks Senate Republicans will ever launch an investigation on the matter. Reid was also curious as to whether he thought the Justice Department should look into Comey, and if the senator thinks the FBI Director should relinquish his position.
“Of course,” Reid responded. “He won’t. He’s got his term. And I’m sure the new administration…they should like him, he helped them get elected.”
