Jake Tapper: Biden Conduct ‘Not Appropriate,’ Other Men Might Get Fired From Their Jobs For What He Did

CNN’s Jake Tapper today covered the allegations of inappropriate behavior from former Vice President Joe Biden and said it’s the kind of behavior that would get people “reprimanded” or even fired if it happened in the workplace.

To recap: former Nevada assemblywoman Lucy Flores came forward alleging inappropriate behavior from Biden from a 2014 event when he touched and kissed her. Another woman, Amy Lappos, said today of a 2009 encounter with Biden, “It wasn’t sexual, but he did grab me by the head. He put his hand around my neck and pulled me in to rub noses with me. When he was pulling me in, I thought he was going to kiss me on the mouth.”

There’s been renewed attention over similar behavior Biden has exhibited in public, but Stephanie Carter––wife of former Defense Secretary Ash Carter––said the photo of Biden with his hands on her shoulders was “misleadingly extracted from what was a longer moment between close friends.”

On the CNN panel today, White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins noted how it’s likely the White House will “weaponize this” if he gets in the race, despite what multiple women have alleged about President Donald Trump‘s own behavior.

Tapper said Biden’s behavior just isn’t okay:

“If any of the men around this table behaved this way at our places of work, we would get reprimanded, we would get potentially even fired. You are not allowed to touch women inappropriately. Again, it doesn’t matter if your intention is sexual or just friendly, you can’t massage a woman’s shoulders and sniff her hair and kiss the back of her head. That’s not appropriate.”

NPR White House reporter Ayesha Rascoe noted how women have been put in uncomfortable situations “for eons” and it’s only just now when many are finally speaking out about it.

She added that there’s a question of whether more stories like this will come out and what his response will be––”what happens after the listening?”

At one point, Tapper did note the hypocrisy of Kellyanne Conway knocking Biden for this behavior when POTUS himself “has been credibly accused of sexual harassment and/or assault.”
