James Comer Talks Down to Reporter in Heated Confrontation Over Biden Finances: ‘You Don’t Understand Loan Documents, I Do’
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) had a confrontation with a Capitol Hill reporter who grilled him on the strength of evidence in his probe into President Joe Biden and his family.
Comer and his colleagues addressed reporters on Wednesday as they railed against Hunter Biden shortly after the public statement from the president’s son. Hunter announced his defiance of the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena for his closed-door deposition, challenged him to do it in a public hearing instead, and struck back at Comer’s claims — which he dismissed as part of the “unrelenting Trump attack machine.”
Comer has rejected Hunter’s offer to publicly testify, so as he ripped the Biden family for receiving foreign money, a reporter interjected to ask, “Do you acknowledge you haven’t answered that question? That you’ve found no evidence of wrongdoing or criminal conduct?”
“We found some very serious evidence,” Comer retorted. He referred to the loan repayment checks exchanged between members of the Biden family back in 2018 (when the president was not in office), claiming it somehow points to “influence peddling.”
When the reporter tried to scrutiny Comer’s claims about those loans, he scoffed before telling her, “You don’t understand loan documents, I do.” When the reporter asked if Comer was accusing Biden’s lawyers of a money-laundering scheme, he decided not to elaborate on his evidence, instead retorting “What do you think? You’re defending him!”
He moved on shortly after without addressing the core of the question.
