Jimmy Kimmel Torches Trump Over Escalating Trade War With China: ‘Calling Out Numbers Like He’s Working a Bingo Hopper!’

Jimmy Kimmel tore into President Donald Trump’s ongoing trade war with China after the news that he increased tariffs on the country to 145%.

In the days since his announcement of sweeping tariffs with America’s trade partners, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have gone back and forth with increasingly steep retaliatory tariffs. Just this week alone, Trump’s tariffs on China have seen multiple increases up to 145%. On Friday, China announced a tariff on U.S. imports of 125% — an increase from 84%.

Kimmel roasted Trump for the seemingly haphazard nature of the frequent tariff increases.

“Trump’s all over the place,” Kimmel said during his monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “Look at China. Over the past 48 hours, the tariffs he put on China have gone from 20% to 104% to now, he says, at least 145%. He’s calling out numbers like he’s working a bingo hopper or something! There’s no plan — unless you consult the MAGA-verse, in which case there is. There is and was definitely a plan.”

The show then played various clips of Trump officials and supporters insisting that the president’s sudden pause on reciprocal tariffs was part of his plan from the beginning.

“Well, if that was the plan, congratulations because in one week, the plan lost $6 trillion and every country in the world hates us now,” Kimmel said. “None of us can ever go on vacation again thanks to the plan. That’s some plan.”
