Melania Trump Announces ‘Be Best’ Policy Campaign to Address Cyberbullying and More

Melania Trump used her speech on Monday to announce the launch of her new “Be Best” initiative for the protection and education of the nation’s children.

The First Lady said that her policy platform would focus on providing support and awareness in order to help kids learn to avoid “destructive or addictive behavior.” To this end, Mrs. Trump announced that her mission would be dedicated to three core issues: the well-being of children, social media use, and opioid abuse.

“As adults, we can and should be best at educating our children about the importance of a healthy and balanced life,” said Trump. “Together, I believe we should strive to provide kids with the tools they need to cultivate their social and emotional health.”

There’s been a great deal of intrigue over FLOTUS’s anti-cyberbullying platform, much of which comes from critics who wonder if she intends to denounce her husband’s negative use of social media. In her speech today, Mrs. Trump called for action among adults to help teach children make smart, positive choices in how they speak, both verbally and online.

“When children learn positive online behaviors early on, social media can be used in productive ways,” FLOTUS said. “It is our responsibility as adults to educate and remind them that…they must choose their words wisely and speak with respect and compassion.”

As Mrs. Trump concluded her speech, the White House launched a website to re-affirm her comments on “the importance of importance of social, emotional, and physical health.”
