Former Trump Voter Tells CNN She Voted Haley Because She Doesn’t Want Her Grandchildren Growing Up in a ‘Dictatorship’

CNN heard from a former Donald Trump voter who turned away from the former president to support Nikki Haley and oppose the “dictatorship” that Trump would lead America towards.

Omar Jimenez was in Manchester, New Hampshire on Tuesday to cover the state’s GOP primary vote, and he spoke with a woman about her vote.

“Well, I voted for Nikki Haley, because I was voting against Donald Trump,” she said. Asked how she made her decision, the woman answered, “I am 74 years old. I lived in a constitutional democracy all my life. I want to remain that way, and I want my grandchildren to grow up in one, not a dictatorship.”

The woman told Jimenez that she voted for Trump back in 2016, but “regretted it almost immediately,” especially after the infamous Helsinki summit where Trump took the word of Vladimir Putin above the word of U.S. intelligence. Despite being a registered Republican, the woman said she voted for President Joe Biden in 2024, and is supporting Haley now because “I believe in a strong NATO. My father fought in World War II to defeat fascism. I want it to remain defeated.”

The woman concluded by disclosing she originally supported Chris Christie before he dropped out of the race, and she’s holding onto hope that Haley will have a surprisingly strong night in the Granite State. The polls show Haley will need a major upset to overcome Trump’s lead.
